What is Data-over-Sound Technology?

Data-over-Sound Technology harnesses the natural power of sound, by encoding data into sound waves for effortless and secure communication between devices.


How is ToneTag using Data-over-Sound Technology?

ToneTag uses its revolutionary Data-over-Sound (DoS) Technology to communicate between devices – enabling contactless proximity payments, marketing solutions, and on-the-go mobility solutions.


How secure is ToneTag Sound Technology?

ToneTag being a technology enabler, does not store any customer data or transaction details, all payment credentials are managed by partnering issuers who follow RBI guidelines. We give utmost importance to privacy and security hence, the technology is PCI-DSS certified. With ToneTag transfer of transaction details are actually safer compared to other modes of payment or data transfer. Any details exchanged during the transaction are protected with three levels of encryption along with other state of the art security features.


PCI DSS Certification

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) applies to companies of any size that accept digital payments. If a company intends to accept digital payment, and store, process and transmit customer data, the company needs to host customer data securely with a PCI compliant hosting provider. Though ToneTag is not storing any customer data, we still have a PCI DSS certification for backend server. ToneTag SDK code has also been reviewed by PCI vendor (SISA).


What happens when the transactions need to be processed in a loud environment?

ToneTag transactions can be processed in any kind of environment, as long as the merchant and customer devices are held close to each other. Background noise, however loud, does not factor into the performance. We use a unique frequency band with a Noise-Filter-Algorithm to cut background noise. Since every tone played is unique, it wouldn’t be confused with any other sound.


What if multiple transactions are to take place at the same time and location?

Multiple transactions at the same time and location go through seamlessly with ToneTag. Incase multiple consumer devices are placed at the same distance to merchant device and transactions from all devices are initiated at the same time, then the server cancels all the transactions. This principle works similar to NFC. It is important that both the merchant and customer devices are held close to each other (approx <15 cms)


What if my phone gets lost or stolen?

It is recommended that the customer protect their payment app with either a pattern or a password to prevent fraudulent or unauthorized transactions in case the device falls into the wrong hands. Customer need to follow the process provided by the payment instrument issuer. However, it is recommended that the customer blocks the payment instruments linked with their bank accounts by contacting their bank or wallet issuer.


What is ToneTag RetailPod?

ToneTag RetailPod is a payment acceptance device which can enable any merchant to accept sound based payments irrespective of their existing infrastructure. The RetailPod uses sound waves to transfer data, thereby enabling payments. It does not require any sort of internet or bluetooth connectivity and is compatible with any mobile, e-wallet, or mobile application.


Can QR code be linked with ToneTag RetailPod?

Yes, QR code can be linked with ToneTag RetailPod to get real-time audio-visual payment acknowledgement.


What are the steps involved in a RetailPod Tap & Pay transaction?

  1. Open any ToneTag enabled app. Select ToneTag or “Pay merchant” option on the home screen
  2. Tap your phone on RetailPod. The RetailPod plays a tone
  3. Receive a pop-up. Enter amount and confirm payment
  4. On successful payment, RetailPod displays an acknowledgement message

What are the steps involved in a RetailPod Scan & Pay transaction?

  1. Open any UPI enabled application and scan the QR code
  2. Receive option to enter amount and PIN on the app
  3. Once the transaction is processed, RetailPod gives audio visual confirmation with amount

What is the RetailPod replacement policy?

In case merchant desires a specific upgrade/update in the product, he initiates a written request for such change to the Company and the Company shall accept to make such changes on payment of a fee as is mutually discussed and decided by both the parties. The actual payable amount may vary on a case by case basis depending on the type of change requested by the merchant. Any customized development on request of Customer shall be provided at such cost as mutually agreed between the Parties.

Warranty will cover only normal wear and tear and will not cover any physical damage. The warranty period is 6 months for hardware components.

Merchant will return damage or inconsistent Pods to company & company shall dispatch the new set of Pods within 15 working days of the receipt of such damaged or inconsistent Pods from the merchant.
